Year of the Spider

Wow, I made it through 2024, and what a ride it’s been!

I’ve dreamed of creating comics since the fourth grade, but over the years, I’ve found plenty of excuses for why I never took the plunge. Last year, though, I decided to rip off the band-aid and dive in headfirst. Despite the challenges along the way, I’m so glad I did. And I’m even more grateful that you’re here to share this journey with me.

The very first Spider Barks started as a simple experiment to see if I could create a digital webcomic since it is a new medium for me. I had no plans to post it, and the title Spider Barks didn’t even exist yet.

But I had so much fun with it that I couldn’t resist moving forward.

Take a look at the five most popular comics of 2024. It’s a bit surprising, but four of the top five are from the very first month—March. You’ll also get a glimpse of how my style has evolved over this last year.

Wrapping Up the Web

I’m incredibly happy with how Spider Barks has grown in its first year as a webcomic. It’s truly been a dream come true. But year one is just the beginning, and I have my eyes set firmly on the future.

While it’s still too early to reveal exactly what that future holds, I’m filled with excitement for what’s to come. Of course, it will take time and a lot of hard work, but creating comics is work I love more than anything, aside from my family of course.

Spider Barks has grown steadily, and watching its organic reach expand has been incredibly energizing. My passion for comics would keep me creating, even if my audience were smaller than it is now, but cartoonists create for the world—and everyone in it who welcomes us.

A huge thank you to everyone who has read, supported, and shared Spider Barks. You all bring a smile to my face and fuel my ever-growing desire to keep making more.

I’m excited for the new year and all the possibilities it brings.

Happy holidays to you and your families!
